இலக்கணம் / Grammar

இங்கே ஒவ்வொரு நெறியோடும் பொதுவான பிழைகளையும், தொல்காப்பியம், நன்னூல் ஆகியவற்றின் நூற்பாக்களையும் காணலாம். Each rule is given with its common mistakes and the sūtras from Tolkāppiyam or Nannūl that support it.

• உயர்திணைப் பன்மை / Plurals for people

  மக்களைக் குறிக்கும் பெயர்கள் -அர், -ஆர், -இர் ஈறு பெறும்; -கள் பெறா.

  Nouns for people take -அர், -ஆர் or -இர், not -கள்.

• உடம்படுமெய் (ய், வ்) / Glide consonants: ய் or வ்

  இ, ஈ, ஐ ஈற்றுக்குப் பின் ய்; ஏ தவிர்ந்த பிற உயிர்களுக்குப் பின் வ்.

  ய் after இ, ஈ, ஐ; வ் after the other vowels except ஏ.

• திணை, பால் இயைபு / Verb agreement

  வினைமுற்று எழுவாயின் திணையோடும் பாலோடும் இயைய வேண்டும்.

  A verb agrees with its subject's திணை and பால் (gender and number).
